Romanticism

and the First Nationalism Area (19th century)

The Napoleonic Wars and the liberalization policies dismantle the ecclesiastical revenues and cause the disappearance of the music chapels. The bourgeoisie takes over, establishing art music in the halls and theaters in the Galician cities, allowing the rebirth of music publishing. Music and poetry become the vanguard of Rexurdimento, expression of Galician cultural and political nationalism. In the last decades of the 19th century, musical institutions such as choirs and bands are created, which will continue to work to the present day.
